During my time with the New Dunedin Hospital team, I was fortunate to work closely with the Health New Zealand Communications team. Here, I learned a lot about communications and really enjoyed the human element of gathering real stories from people working in the health industry. With zero budget due to Health NZ cuts, everything you see across my work with the NDH and HNZ was done on my own steam – from camera gear to Adobe software, I managed to create outcomes that worked well without external resources.
Above a selection of infographics helping communicate key HNZ messages throughout the hospital.
I loved this project, which focused on raising awareness of the underuse of the discharge lounge at Dunedin Public Hospital. Working with volunteer actors and the discharge lounge team, we created a video highlighting the space with the goal of freeing up beds and helping keep the health system moving. The video has been a success and is displayed across multiple public and staff screens throughout the hospital.
Here’s another quick edit, reminding staff and patients to use the hand wash facilities to help stop the spread of germs.
A quick visit and highlight reel of a flight Nurses and doctors’ training session at HeliOtago. This was an awesome opportunity to learn and document some of the behind-the-scenes work of our incredible flight nurses and doctors, who bring urgent care to patients. Here they are shown in training simulations.
A video highlight reel capturing a mass casualty simulation event at Dunedin Hospital. This was a great opportunity to document the teamwork and training that goes into preparing staff for large-scale emergencies, showcasing how different departments come together to deliver rapid, coordinated care.
A candid interview between Hamish Brown (Group Director of Operations, Health New Zealand Southern) and Mark Eager (CEO, Mobile Imaging), discussing the introduction of the mobile PET-CT scanner to Dunedin. Produced under tight time constraints and zero budget, this video highlights the innovative approach to expanding diagnostic access in the Southern district.
