Communication design intern for the New Dunedin Hospital Project, 2023-ongoing
As a Visual Communications Intern with the New Dunedin Hospital team, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of exciting and impactful projects. This role allowed me to combine my love for design and communication with the important task of helping the public and staff understand and appreciate this significant development.
Key Responsibilities and Achievements
- Social Media Management
- Updates on Building Site: I managed the hospital’s social media accounts, providing regular updates on the construction progress. These updates kept the public informed and engaged with the project.
- Illustrations and Educational Graphics
- Key Spaces: I created detailed illustrations of important areas within the new building. These visuals were used to educate the public and potential staff about the hospital’s new care model and innovative features. My work made complex architectural and medical concepts easier to understand.
- Timelapse Project
- Building Construction Timelapse: I set up a timelapse project to document the construction process. This involved working with the police station, which provided a great vantage point for capturing the progress. The timelapse serves as a visual story of the hospital’s development and is a powerful tool for both marketing and historical documentation.
- Photography
- On-Site Photography: I regularly took photos on the construction site, capturing the evolving landscape and key milestones. These photos were used in various promotional materials and internal updates.
- Team Headshots: I updated the headshots for the project team, ensuring a consistent and professional visual representation of the staff involved in this significant project.
- Video Production
- Employee Interviews: I produced interview-style videos featuring employees involved in the project. These videos focused on their roles, what to expect in the new build, and their excitement about the innovations being implemented. This content helped put a personal touch on the project and provided insights into the team’s dedication and expertise.
- Design Work
- Various Design Tasks: My role also involved a wide range of design tasks, from creating marketing materials to designing informative brochures and presentations. Each piece was crafted to support the hospital’s communication strategy and enhance public engagement.

This internship has not only expanded my technical and creative skill set but also demonstrated the power of visual communication in engaging and educating the public about large-scale projects.
